San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO - In their first game back from a 10-game road trip and arriving at 2 p.m., the San Antonio Rampage put together a solid offensive effort despite dropping a 2-0 decision to the Iowa Stars Friday night at the AT&T Center. After completing a 21-day sojourn that spanned 6,000 miles in Milwaukee last night, the Rampage outshot Iowa 31 to 29 in their first of a 10-game home stand.
Iowa scored two quick goals in the opening period as the rest of the game remained scoreless. Mathias Tjarnqvist took advantage of the Stars' first shot on goal and Pavel Brendl's hooking minor, converting it to a 1-0 lead at the 3:17 mark. Junior Lessard went top shelf on David LeNeveu 2:37 later.
Tim Jackman and David Cornacchia both tried to change the team's momentum in the second frame by getting into fisticuffs.
Stars' goaltender Mike Smith won his third shutout bid of the season stopping all 31 pucks and Steve Gainey was awarded second star for his effort.
The Rampage (16-35-1-4) will host the Stars again for a Sunday matinee at the AT&T Center at 4 p.m.
