Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins fell to the Norfolk Admirals 4-2 Friday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got goals from Sean Curry and Tyler Redenbach. The P-Bruins are now 29-24-1-2 on the season, 61 points and in fourth place in the Atlantic Division.
The Admirals got on the board first when Pavel Varobiev made a steal along the far boards and took a shot from the left face off circle. The puck went off P-Bruins goaltender Brian Eklund's shoulder and trickled into the net. 58 seconds later Norfolk's Varobiev scored again. He put home a rebound off a shot from Matt Keith as the Admirals went into the first intermission leading 1-0.
In the second period the P-Bruins cut the Norfolk lead in half. Jonathan Sigalet fed Curry the puck and he blasted it past Norfolk netminder Corey Crawford from the blue line. Redenbach had the other assist. The Admirals went on the power play and retook their two goal lead. Jason Morgan scored the power play goal, while Jason Wisniewski and Shawn Thornton had the assists. 32 seconds later the Admirals went up 4-1 when Colin Fraser scored an even strength goal with Eric Meloche and Matt Keith receiving the assists. Norfolk took their 4-1 lead into the second intermission.
The P-Bruins pulled within two goals at the 12:03 mark of the third period. Nate Thompson made a steal at the center line and worked the puck ahead to Eric Nickulas. Nickulas skated in 2 on 1 with Redenbach who took the pass and scored. The P-Bruins could not score after that and fell 4-2 to the Admirals.
Eklund stopped 18 of 22 shots for the P-Bruins, while Crawford stopped 36 of 38 shots for the Admirals. The P-Bruins were 0 for 3 on the power play, while Norfolk was 1 for 5 on the man-advantage.
