Iowa Chops News Release
SAN ANTONIO, TX - The Iowa Stars and San Antonio Rampage played their fifth game of the 10 game season series on Friday night. Behind the strength of a 31 save performance by goalie Mike Smith, Iowa posted a 2-0 victory and snapped a six-game winless streak.
In what proved to be the only goal needed, Iowa's Mathias Tjarnqvist scored his 14th goal of the season at the 3:17 mark of the first period. Captain Dan Jancevski pushed his points-streak to three games with an assist on the power-play tally. Just over two minutes later, All-Star forward Junior Lessard intercepted a clearing pass and fired home a stick-side slapshot past Rampage goalie David LeNeveu for his 17th goal of the year. The unassisted goal put Lessard in a three-way tie with Toby Petersen and Loui Eriksson for the team lead.
Stars goaltender Mike Smith was the story of the game, making 31 saves, including 21 over the last two periods for the shutout. The shutout was Smith's third this season and Iowa's fourth overall.
Forward David Oliver had his five-game points-streak halted. He has four goals and two assists in that span.
Attendance was 5,629. Power-play chances: IOWA: 1 for 6; SAN ANTONIO: 0 for 4
