Indianapolis Indians News Release

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Adrian Sampson authored seven innings of one-run baseball, but it was not enough for the Indianapolis Indians on Friday night as the Charlotte Knights took the series opener from the Tribe, 3-0.

Sampson (6-5) rebounded in a big way after he was chased in his last start in the second inning by the Gwinnett Braves. He struck out five batters and threw 59 of his 81 pitches for strikes. Sampson did not issue a free pass and allowed only three hits.

It was one hit that made him the pitcher of record as Tyler Saladino led off the bottom of the fourth with a home run to left field. When Sampson left the game, it was just a 1-0 lead for the Knights (38-29), but they would tack on a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Terance Marin (2-0) worked out of a pair of jams in the fourth and seventh frames to earn the win. He pitched seven shutout innings and allowed just four hits. Zach Phillips worked the ninth inning for his fourth save of the season.

Willy Garcia connected for his first Triple-A hit in the top of the third for the Indians (42-26). Despite the loss, the Tribe is one of only three International League teams to own 20 or more wins away from home.
