Toledo Mud Hens News Release
The Toledo Mud Hens and Norfolk Tides took the field Friday night in front of a sold out crowd, both looking to pick up a victory in the second game of the four game set. Mike Belfiore and Eddie Gamboa took the mound for their respective squads, both keeping the opponents' offenses in tact for a majority of the evening.
The limited offense got kicked off in the first with an RBI double off the bat of Hens' third baseman Jefry Marte, plating Xavier Avery. Marte continues to add to his team lead in runs batted in with 41. The Tides followed the Hens' lead and plated the tying run in the top half of the second on a Julio Borbon RBI double, his fifth of the season.
Left-hander Belfiore and the knuckleballer Gamboa cruised through innings two through five not allowing a run to either team, however in the sixth the Hens' offense broke through after one out back-to-back walks surrendered by Gamboa. With runners at first and second Jordan Lennerton and Brendan Harris struck two straight RBI singles plating the two runners and putting Toledo up 3-1. Gamboa would exit after 5.1 innings surrendering three runs on four hits with two strikeouts. Mike Belfiore would leave with the lead, after 6.1 innings allowing just one run on five hits with two punchouts. Belfiore picked up the victory his third of the season.
Josh Zeid was summoned in relief, throwing 1.2 innings of shutout ball, keeping Belfiore's win in tact. In the ninth Hens' closer Alberto Cabrera came on and recorded his ninth save of the season.
The two squads are back in action in game three on Saturday night at 7:05 pm in Toledo.
