Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
ABOUT LAST NIGHT: On Friday of last week, Austin Romine was hit in the head with a fastball that prompted the ejection and subsequent suspension of Rochester Red Wings pitcher Lester Oliveros. While he never hit the DL, he did not return to the field until last night at the Red Wings' Frontier Field. Romine, who was felled after two big home runs hit by his teammates at PNC Field, posted six RBIs including his first career grand slam to lead his RailRiders over the Red Wings (Minnesota Twins), 10-7. The victory gave the RailRiders the three-game series and their third rubber-match win of the season.
AIN'T IT GRAND?: Romine thundered his first career grand slam in 64 at-bats with the bases loaded. It marked the second slugged by a 2015 RailRider. Tyler Austin went deep with the bases full on May 19 at PNC Field. His grand slam tied that game at 4-4, but the RailRiders went on to lose, 5-4.
CALL IT A COMEBACK: Last night's rally from a three-run deficit tied for SWB's biggest come-from-behind win of the season. The club also rallied from three down against Durham on May 21 for a 4-3 victory in 10 innings.
DRIVE 'EM HOME: Romine became the first RailRider with at least six RBIs in a game since Zoilo Almonte hammered home seven at Gwinnett on July 23, 2014.
GETTIN' FIGGY WITH IT: Since his 0-for-3 day dropped his average to .184 on May 11 at Norfolk, Cole Figueroa has gone 44-for-115 in a span of 30 games played. He ranks 1st of 2nd in the IL in three of the four slashes over that time: .383/.432/.539/.971.
HIGH NOONAN: Nick Noonan has dominated June, going 18-for-45 (.400/.440/.556/.996) with five extra-base hits and nine RBIs in 12 games played. His June AVG (2nd), OBP (4th), SLG (9th) and OPS (7th) all rank among the IL's best.
RED WINGING IT: Despite taking two of three at Frontier Field to being this road trip, the RailRiders have lost 12 of their last 16 games at Rochester. That hurt the team en route to a 5-11 performance against the Red Wings last season. The SWB franchise had not logged a losing season against Rochester since the 2007 unit also went 5-11. The RailRiders have lost 20 of their last 29 against the Red Wings overall going back to 2013. Yesterday SWB claimed its first series win at Frontier Field since the 2013 team took three of four from April 15-18.
I WANNA ROCH!: Rochester (6-6) is the lone IL North team that owns a non-winning record against the RailRiders this season. SWB has gone 19-7 against Buffalo (3-0), Lehigh Valley (2-1), Pawtucket (7-3) and Syracuse (7-3). The RailRiders have posted a 2-2 record at Frontier Field compared to an 11-0 road ledger against Buffalo (3-0), Pawtucket (3-0) and Syracuse (5-1). Tonight they will play their first game of the season at Lehigh Valley, their closest foe.
ROAD WARRIORS: The RailRiders stand three games below .500 at PNC Field (17-20) and 13 games over on the road (22-9). The team has hit .281 on the road compared to a .259 mark at home. On the road, SWB has scored 161 runs in 31 games (5.2/game). At home, the squad has plated 139 runs in 37 games (3.8/game). The pitching has performed better at home (3.25 ERA) than on the road (3.51 ERA). No IL team has a better road winning percentage than the RailRiders (.710), who have won 15 of 17 away from PNC Field.
MULTIPLICITY: The RailRiders enjoyed multi-hit efforts by Ben Gamel, Gregorio Petit and Romine. Gamel has hit .313 in 11 games as the SWB leadoff man with six RBIs and seven runs scored. Petit has hit .556 (10-for-18) in four games as a RailRider.
