Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs will look to make it three wins in a row when they open a three-game set with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Friday night. First pitch from Coca-Cola Park is set for 7:05 p.m. The IronPigs (26-43) took three of four from Buffalo earlier this week. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre sits in first place in the North Division at 39-29 on the year after taking two of three from Rochester. The RailRiders have also won eight of their last 10 overall.
RHP Jason Berken (3-4, 3.88) gets the ball for the Pigs on Friday. The right-hander's last outing came in relief on Sunday at Norfolk when he fired 2.1 shutout innings while allowing four hits to go along with a walk and two strikeouts. Berken's last start came back on June 5 vs. Indianapolis when he was tagged with the loss after allowing four runs on eight hits while walking one and fanning five over seven innings of work. With runners in scoring position this season, opponents have hit just .172 (11-64) against Berken.
RHP Ivan Nova (1-0, 1.50) will make his second rehab start for the RailRiders in the series opener. On Saturday vs. Rochester, the Palenque, Dominican Republic native earned the win after surrendering a run on five hits to go along with a walk and three strikeouts in 6.0 IP. Nova is working his way back from Tommy John Surgery that was performed on April 29, 2014.
There will be a Friday Night Fireworks display presented by Pennsylvania Lottery following the game. Friday is also Super Hero night and the IronPigs will be donning Captain America jerseys. Fans can bid on their favorite player's Captain America jersey from anywhere with the easy-to-use Qtego service that allows fans to place bids, receive notifications when outbid and check the status of their item via text messages on their mobile phones. Detailed instructions on how to place your bid will be made available at ironpigsbaseball.com.
