
Bats Unable to Bounce Back After Five-Run Rally, 7-3

Rochester, NY- The Louisville Bats (33-35) started their ten game road trip against the Rochester Red Wings (34-32) tonight with a loss, 7-3 at Frontier Field.
In the seventh inning Irving Falu and Josciel Veras singled to score Jermaine Curtis and Ryan LaMarre to take the lead, 3-2. Rochester answered back as second baseman James Beresford singled to score the tying run. Danny Ortiz followed with a three-run triple to take the lead 6-3. Ortiz later scored to put on the seventh run on a sacrifice fly.
Right-hander Keyvius Sampson made his second appearance for the Bats tonight and first on the road. He went five innings, allowed four hits, gave up two runs both earned, walked four, and struck out five. Righty Sam LeCure (L, 2-4, 6.54) took the loss as he replaced Sampson to start the sixth inning. He went one inning, allowed four hits, gave up five runs all earned, walked one, and didn't strike out a hitter.
Starting on the mound for the Red Wings was lefty Taylor Rogers. He went six and one-third innings, allowed seven hits, allowed three runs, two earned, walked three, and struck out four. Righty Mark Hamburger (W, 2-1, 5.26) finished the seventh inning and was earned the win. He pitched one and two-third innings hitless innings.
A throwing error by catcher Eric Fryer scored Falu and put the first run on the board in the third. In the fifth inning Red Wing's Beresford hit a 2-run-single, scoring third baseman Doug Bernier and shortstop Danny Santana.
The Bats were unable to bounce back after the five-run seventh inning rally which resulted in a loss for game one of the three game series.
Tomorrow the Bats take on the Red Wings again at 7:05 pm. Projected to pitch for the Bats is left-hander David Holmberg (3-4, 4.46) and Rochester's is to be determined.
