Toledo Mud Hens News Release

On a night where no fireworks were scheduled, Dixon Machado provided his own with a walk-off home run in the tenth inning. After being down 4-0 against the Norfolk Tides, the Mud Hens scored five unanswered runs to propel them to a 5-4 comeback victory.

Thad Weber started strong on the mound, but started to scuffle in the third inning. The Tides got their first run of the night on a Rey Navarro RBI double. In the fourth inning, Weber allowed a solo home run to Dariel Alvarez to give Norfolk a 2-0 lead. The Tides continued to rise in the fifth inning, getting two more runs on a home run from Henry Urrutia and an RBI double from Steve Clevenger. After five, the Tides held a 4-0 lead.

The Mud Hens scored two in the sixth inning courtesy of a Manny Pina RBI single that cut the Norfolk lead in half. Pinch hitting for Corey Jones to start the seventh inning, Brendan Harris led off with a double to get the second rally started. Xavier Avery followed with an RBI double of his own to get the Hens within one. With one out, Steven Moya sent a ground ball up the middle to score Avery and tie the game at four.

Both teams were held scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings, and the Mud Hens headed to extra innings tied 4-4 with Norfolk. Bruce Rondon came on to pitch the tenth inning, and dominated the Tides' hitters. Rondon induced a broken-bat ground out for the first out, and then struck out the final two batters of the inning. In the bottom half of the inning, Machado led off with a solo-shot over the left field fence to give Toledo their victory.

The Mud Hens are back in action against the Norfolk Tides on Friday night at 7 p.m.
