(Florence, KY) - The Florence Freedom are happy to announce that infielder Sam Eberle is a 2014 Frontier League Post-Season All-Star. He was selected by a vote of the league's General Managers, Field Managers, coaches, radio announcers and beat writers.
"We are very proud Sam has been named to the Post-Season All-Star team," Freedom manager Fran Riordan said. "He has had a great year and has been a consistent force in the middle of our lineup all season."
Eberle, 24, was a Mid-Season All-Star as well and leads the league with a .450 On-Base Percentage at the conclusion of games on August 30. He is also third in batting average (.332) and third in walks (60).
The right-handed hitter leads the Freedom at the conclusion of games on August 30 in a number of offensive categories including average (.332), games played (90), at bats (301), runs scored (49), hits (100), doubles (19), RBI (43), total bases (144), walks (60), hit by pitches (6), OBP (.450), SLG (.478), and OPS (.928).
Eberle hit five home runs and drove in 30 runs in 2013 with the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes of the short-season single-A Northwest League. He also tallied 14 doubles. The Jacksonville State University product and Chattanooga, TN native spent two years in the San Francisco Giants' organization, both with Salem-Keizer. Eberle drew 35 walks in 2013 while only striking out 36 times. He plays both corner infield spots and can catch as well. The Giants selected Eberle in the 25th round of the 2012 MLB June Amateur Draft.
