Slammers Win 5-4 with Two Runs in the 9th vs Frontier on Sunday

The Joliet Slammers-Presented by ATI Physical Therapy- came from behind again on Sunday with a 2-run 9th inning to defeat Frontier 5-4. Joliet sweeps the series and they have now won 4 games in a row. It was their 7th walk-off win of the season and second straight.

The Greys scored three runs in the top of the 1st inning off Joliet starter Andrew Strenge. Chris Ellison got them started with a RBI double and that was followed by a 2-run single from Jon Minucci. After that, Strenge retired ten straight hitters. In that time the Slammers rallied to tie the game at 3-3. They picked up a run in the bottom of the 1st thanks to a RBI grounder from Russell Moldenhauer. The in the bottom of the 2nd inning, Adam Lewis walked and then Max Casper singled. Seth Granger then ripped a 2-run triple down the right field line to tie the game 3-3. The string of ten in a row retired by Strenge ended with a solo homer from Zach Tanner in the top of the 4th inning. The game stayed 4-3 then all the way into the bottom of the 9th inning. Strenge went 7 full innings and did not allow a run in his final three innings and finished with 5 strikeouts. Kevin McNorton pitched the last two shutout innings and earned the win as the Slammers performed more heroics in the bottom of the 9th. Greys starter Clint Wright went to the mound to begin the 9th. Until then he had allowed no runs over the previous 6 innings but Seth Granger led off with a solo homer to right to tied the game at 4-4. Wright was lifted for reliever Paul Mittura. Adrian English singled and then Grant DeBruin was hit by a pitch. DeBruin did not get a hit in the contest and saw his 15-game hitting streak end. Russell Moldenhauer struck out and then Adam Giacalone singled to rightfield. English slid into the back of the plate and was called safe on a close play at the plate on a good throw from Minucci. The win earned the Slammers their 4th sweep of a series on the season and ties them for their longest win streak of the year.

In the middle of the 8th inning, the Slammers gave away $500 to lucky fan, Diane Barr, as part of their Amazing August/September promotion. Each home game the remainder of the season will see one fan go home with at least $250 dollars. The higher that night's attendance, the higher the payout will be. The payout on Friday, August 1st to a lucky winner was $5000.

Monday is an off day and then the team will start the season-ending three-game series vs. Gateway with a 2-buck Tuesday. Reserved seats are just two dollars and there will be 2-buck craft beers during each of the last three contests. Wednesday's game is at a special 10:05am start time and the season finale begins at 7:05pm on Thursday. The final game will have fireworks afterwards on Fan Appreciation Night.
