Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, PA-A day after the team clinched a playoff berth for the first time in seven seasons, the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, along with the Frontier League announce former Wild Things outfielder CJ Beatty and Jonathan Kountis, the league's leading man in saves have been named to the 2014 postseason all-star team. Beatty was awarded as a postseason all-star designated hitter while Kountis was selected as postseason all-star reliever.

This marks the second straight season that Beatty has been selected to the season ending all-star team for his league. He was awarded the league's postseason all-star at second base in 2013 after hitting a team-high 26 doubles with 18 homeruns and 66 RBI. In his second season with Washington, Beatty, a two-time all-star transitioned to the outfield where he ranked amongst the top Frontier League hitters in homeruns (18) and RBIs (57) before his contract was purchased by the Chicago White Sox Organization August 12. Before his departure, Beatty was second on the team in batting average (.275) and hit 13 doubles with 57 RBI.

Wild Things closer Jonathan Kountis has been slamming the door shut on teams all season, collecting a league leading 30 saves. He became the first player in Frontier League history to have 30 saves in a season after tossing the 10th inning of Washington's 3-2 extra-inning victory Friday night at GCS Ballpark. Currently, Kountis has a 1-4 record and 2.70 ERA and has converted 30 out of 32 save opportunities. Kountis has also made a postseason all-star team back in 2012 as a member of the Lake Erie Crushers.

Other awards were given to the Observer-Reporter for Newspaper of the Year, Chris Dugan, Writer of the Year and Wild Things Radio Broadcaster Randy Gore for the Commissioner's Award of Excellence for his outstanding community service.
