August 31, 2014 - Frontier League (FL)
River City Rascals News Release

The Rascals prevailed once again over the Lake Erie Crushers Saturday night, earning a hard-fought victory in a game that lasted nearly four hours. When it had all been settled, River City had earned its 58th victory of the summer with 9-6 win.

Saxon Butler was an early star for the Rascals. The DH drove in three of the team's first four runs in support of starter Bryce Shafer. Butler plated Eric Williams and Johnny Morales with a double in the first and drove in Steve Carrillo with a single in the second. Jon Myers added a two-run homer, his fourth of the season, in the third to give Shafer a 6-0 lead to work with.

The Raskie starter was good in his first three innings, but things came apart for him in the fourth. He surrendered a three-run homer to Anderson Hidalgo in that inning that halved the Rascal lead.

But River City was a long way from done with the bats. They added another run, this one on a squeeze bunt by Steve Carrillo to bring in Jon Myers and make it 7-3. The Crushers would work their way back to 7-5 before Hector Crespo buried them in the bottom of the eighth by scorching a two-RBI triple to center to Joe Staley and Brian McConkey and put the game out of reach.

Gabriel Shaw surrendered a homer in the ninth, but finished off the Crushers by striking out Trevor Stevens looking. The win for the Rascals helps them keep pace with the Boomers, who also emerged from August 30 victorious.

Over 3000 turned out to see the Rascals lay it on the Crushers on Fan Appreciation Night at T.R. Hughes, and seats are still available for tomorrow night's series finale. To purchase tickets contact the River City Rascals box office at (636) 240-BATS or by visiting www.RiverCityRascals.com.
