Saltdogs Score Pair in Ninth to Drop RailCats

GARY, Ind. - Jimmy Rohan hit a go-ahead two-out RBI single in the ninth inning to lead Lincoln to a 5-3 victory over the RailCats on Sunday afternoon at U. S. Steel Yard. The RailCats fall to 19-30 on the season.
With two out in the ninth, Rohan singled through the middle of the infield against RailCats reliever David Quinowski to score David Espinosa, who had walked earlier in the inning. The next batter, Asif Shah hit a ground ball to third that was bobbled by Brian Kolb for an error, bringing home another run to make it 5-3.
The RailCats had an opportunity to tie or win the game in the bottom of the ninth, as Chris Carrara led off with a walk and David Cooper double to right. Adam Klein hit a grounder to first for an out, and then Cooper got caught in a rundown between second and third and tagged out for a double play. The next hitter, Mike Massaro, grounded out to the pitcher to end the game.
In the first inning, Klein singled and scored on Sean Henry's two out double to the gap in left to put the 'Cats ahead 1-0. Lincoln tied it in the third against RailCats starter Tyler Deetjen on a run-scoring single by Mike Provencher.
The Saltdogs grabbed the lead in the fourth on an RBI single by A.J. Miller, but the RailCats took the lead back in the fifth. One run scored on a throwing error by Espinosa, and Massaro hit a sac fly to give the RailCats a 3-2 lead. Lincoln's Joe Spiers hit an infield RBI single in the sixth to tie the game at three.
Game three of the four-game set will be on Monday night at 7:10. It is Dollar Monday, where fans can buy one ticket and get the second for $1. There will also be $1 deals at the concession stand. Will Krout (0-3, 4.02) will be the starting pitcher for Gary.
