El Paso Diablos News Release
EL PASO, TX- For the second straight game, the Diablos rallied late against the Worcester Tornadoes but again could not complete the comeback, falling in game two of the inter-league series by a final of 8-5.
El Paso fell behind early and had to play catch up virtually the entire game. The Tornadoes touched up starter Edgar Garcia (0-3) for five runs in the first three innings and seven overall to take a 7-1 lead into the eighth. Worcester scored four times in the opening inning, giving plenty of run support to starter Michael Gedman (2-0).
El Paso's comeback attempt started in the eighth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Scott Clement's bloop double turned a 7-1 deficit into a 7-3 game. J.J. Muse then hit a ground ball to third, but Johnny Welch's throw skipped low and past first baseman Alex Trezza, plating two more runs for the Diablos to make it 7-5.
Like the first game of the series however, El Paso was not able to keep Worcester from adding onto a lead in the ninth. Nick Salotti's RBI double made it a 8-5 contest, and despite bringing the tying run to the plate in the bottom half, the Diablos could not score and fell in their second straight game.
Nick Serino recorded his fifth save and second straight against the Diablos, who fall to 16-31 with the loss. Game three of the series is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. start on Monday with recent American Association Pitcher of the Week Scott Hodsdon taking the mound for El Paso.
