
Sox Squeak out Win over Wingnuts

AMARILLO, TX- The Wichita Wingnuts (32-16) lost 3-2 to the Amarillo Sox (26-23) at Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium on Sunday evening.
Harrison Kain drove in the winning run with a two-out, RBI single to shallow left-center in the bottom of the ninth. Alberto Espinosa singled through the right side to open the inning and was sacrificed to second by Mitch Abeita. Wingnuts' reliever Jared Simon retired Garrett Rau on a groundball to first. With Espinosa now on third base, Kain hit a soft line drive to left-center that narrowly eluded Ryan Khoury for the game-winning hit.
Wichita had rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game with a pair of solo home runs. Steve Carrillo hit a line drive home run to left-center with two outs in the top of the sixth to cut Amarillo's lead in half. Justin Tellam tied the game with a long drive to left in the top of the seventh.
The Sox took an early 1-0 lead against Wingnuts' starter Ryan Hinson on Matthew Tucker's solo homer to left in the bottom of the first. Rau made it 2-0 in the fourth with a two-out, line drive single to right that scored Espinosa from second base.
Hinson took a no-decision, allowing two earned runs on five hits in six innings. Hinson struck out three and walked one while pitching on three days of rest.
Ryan Mitchell started for Amarillo and also took a no-decision. Mitchell allowed two earned runs on nine hits in six and two-thirds. Mitchell walked one and struck out nine.
Simon took the loss in relief for the Wingnuts. Chase Johnson earned the win in relief for Amarillo. Andrew Aizenstadt and Nick Walters combined for one and one-third scoreless innings of relief.
Wichita left 11 runners on base in the loss.
