Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs on Monday made their second trade with Shreveport in three days, acquiring outfielder Deacon Burns in exchange for future considerations. To make room on the roster for Burns, Lincoln released pitcher Eric Alvarez.

Burns, a left-handed center fielder, played in 76 games for Shreveport this season, hitting .233 with four home runs and 34 runs batted in. The speedy outfielder hit three triples and stole 15 bases for the Sports this season. He had a 3-RBI game against Lincoln on June 6 of this year.

"The deal gives us a true center fielder, something we haven't really had for the past couple of weeks," said Lincoln acting manager Jim Haller. "Plus, he hit nearly .300 in this league last year, so we think he's better at the plate than what his stats for this season show."

Alvarez, a righty whose full name is Mark Eric Alvarez, made just one appearance for Lincoln in his two weeks on the roster. He threw two-thirds of an inning against Shreveport on July 25, retiring the two batters he faced.

The Saltdogs' current homestand runs through August 6. For team and ticket information, go to www.saltdogs.com.
