
Sabres Alumni to challenge Elmira Hockey All-Stars

ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira Jackals, proud member of the ECHL, and general manager Robbie S. Nichols announced today that the Buffalo Sabres Alumni Association will be playing the Elmira Hockey All-Stars in a charity hockey game at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, January 5th, at First Arena.
Tickets for the event will go on sale to the general public on Monday, December 3rd, at 10 a.m. and scaled at $22.00 (Restaurant), $16.00 (Center Ice), $11.00 (Blue End Zone) and $10.00 (Red End Zone). Current Jackals season ticket holders will have the opportunity to purchase their season seats for the event in a special presale beginning Monday, November 12th, through Friday, November 30th. Season tickets holder may purchase their seats at a special 50% percent discount ($11.00/$8.00/$5.50/$5.00) for this game.
The Sabres Alumni Association's roster features a number of familiar names to hockey fans young and old. Forwards Matthew Barnaby (834 NHL games), Rob Ray (900 NHL games), and Ric Seiling (738) are slated to appear along with Wilf Paiement (946), Grant Ledyard (1028), Craig Muni (819).
Ray won the King Clancy Award in 1999 while with the Sabres. The award is given annually to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution to his community.
Names familiar to local minor league hockey fans include defenseman Richie Dunn, the Eddie Shore Award winner in 1984-85 with the American Hockey League's Binghamton Whalers. Goaltender Mark Laforest won the Baz Bastien Memorial Award twice as the AHL's Most Outstanding Goaltender (Adirondack Red Wings 1986-87 & Binghamton Rangers 1990-91).
The Elmira All-Stars will be headed by Jackals general manager Robbie Nichols with confirmed participants Eddy Lowe and Todd Brost. Both were integral parts of Jackals hockey history that began in 2000-2001.
Lowe was a part of the first six Jackals squads and is career leader in numerous categories including games played (413), goals (124) and points (248). Last season, Lowe became the first Jackals player to have his number retired.
Brost was behind the bench as head coach for the first 359 games in the club's history and led the team to the playoffs four times and the Colonial Cup finals twice.
More participants for the Elmira All-Stars will be announced as they are confirmed for the event.
A post-game auction of the game-worn jerseys will take place immediately following the contest along with a meet-and-greet with members of both teams that will be open the fans.
