Morin Named ECHL Rookie of the Month

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays, ECHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, announced today that Travis Morin has been named the CCM Vector ECHL Rookie of the Month for October.

Morin, currently on recall to Hershey, recorded six goals and five assists for 11 points and a plus-minus rating of +7 in seven games during October. Included in his five goals were two power-play markers, two short-handed tallies, and one game-winner. He concluded the month with a career-high five points (3g, 2a) against the Columbia Inferno on Oct. 31.

The 23-year-old currently is tied for the ECHL lead with eight goals and is tied for third with 13 points. He also leads the Stingrays in shots (41) and plus-minus rating (+8), and is tied for the team lead with three power-play goals.

Prior to joining the Stingrays last March, Morin spent four years at Minnesota State University-Mankato, where he registered 133 points (58g, 75a) in 151 games. Originally, he was the Capitals' 9th round pick (263rd overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

The next home game for the Stingrays will be Sunday, November 11 at 4 p.m. versus the Mississippi Sea Wolves. It's the first Sunday of the season with $5 kids tickets purchased at the Coliseum Box Office. Don't forget your skates to stay after the game for Skate with the Rays.
