April 4, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

READING, Pennsylvania - Cincinnati Cyclones rookie Ryan Russell fired home his sixth goal of the season at 4:38 of overtime to give the club a 4-3 win over Reading on Friday night. The win was the 55th of the season for Cincinnati-the most ever by a pro hockey team in Cincinnati.

With the win and a 4-2 loss by Texas at Florida tonight-the Cyclones and Wildcatters are tied for the most points in the league with 115. Cincinnati had 55 wins and Texas has 53-the first tie-breaker for the Brabham Cup-annually awarded to the ECHL team with the most standings points. It also gives home ice advantage to the winning team throughout the playoffs. A Cyclones win at Trenton on Saturday night would secure the trophy for the first time for Cincinnati.

The Cyclones opened the scoring 6:34 into the contest, as Mathieu Aubin scored a backhanded goal from low in the slot. It was his 29th goal of the season from David Desharnais. Exactly one minute later, Dany Roussin collected his 23rd goal on a backhander at 7:34, as Rob LaLonde assisted.

Cincinnati scored twice in the second period, top open a 3-1 edge. Desharnais collected his 29th goal at 12:31, taking a pass at the top of the goal crease on the left side from Olivier Latendresse. Then, at 16:32-with a two-man advantage-the Cyclones got a score from Thomas Beauregard, his 31st of the season from Desharnais and Latendresse. It was the first game for Beauregard since March 16 as he recovered from an injury.

A pair of third period power play goals from Reading forced overtime-as P.J. Atherton netted his 16th at 12:47 and Brock Hooton recorded his 26th at 15:21. The Roysld outshot Cincinnati, 17-7, in the final frame.

Russell then scored in the overtime to end the contest with his sixth goal of the season and third versus Reading.

The Cincinnati Cyclones are 44 games above .500, with a 55-11-5 record and sole possession of first place in the North Division-28 points ahead of second place Elmira. The win gives Cincinnati a 39-5-3 record (.862 win percentage) since December 15. Reading is 38-25-8. The 55 wins are the most ever by the club and the most ever by a pro hockey team in Cincinnati. The victory tonight moves the club within a win of the ECHL's single season win record (56) set by Louisiana in 2001-02.

The Cyclones have 115 points on the season. Only Louisiana (116 in 2001-02) has ever recorded more.

By winning the North Division, the Cyclones have a bye in the play-in round of the ECHL postseason and will host the winner of the fourth seed-fifth seed, best-of-three series at the end of the regular season. Johnstown and Dayton will play in that series, only the final positions and home ice between the teams is still to be determined. The first game of the best-of-seven series that the Cyclones will play, opens at U.S. Bank Arena on Friday, April 11 at 7:30pm. The second contest (Game ‘B' will be played the next night-Saturday, April 12).

The Cyclones close out the regular season Saturday night at Trenton. The game will be carried on 96 Rock, as well as at www.cycloneshockey.com. The pregame show airs at 6:30pm, with face off at 7pm.

Tickets for all Cyclones games can be purchased at the U.S. Bank Arena box office, all Ticketmaster outlets including select Kroger stores, charge by phone at 513-562-4949 or online at ticketmaster.com.
