Charlotte Checkers News Release

Charlotte, N.C.- The Checkers dropped the last regular season home game to the South Carolina Stingrays by a score of 4-3.

The Stingrays got on the board in the first period when Trent Campbell rifled a one-timer over the catching glove of Checkers netminder Chris Holt after the nice feed from Travis Morin at 11:38. Campbell would strike again deflecting a Sean Collins point shot into the net at 17:50 putting the Stingrays up, 2-0 after twenty minutes.

Kenton Smith brought the Checkers to within a goal when his slapshot from the slot beat South Carolina goalie, Davis Parley over the catching glove at 5:32. Trent Campbell would net a third goal of the evening when he scored on a two-on-one break at 6:02. The Checkers would score two goals in a five second span to tie the contest. The first was tallied by Mike Bayrack as he redirected a pass from Tom Pyatt behind Parley at 13:11. The ensuing face off was won by Bruce Graham to Mark Lee who sped down the ice and beat both Stingrays defenseman and then the goaltender over the blocker on a nice shot that locked things up at 3-3. Once again, South Carolina recaptured a lead when Chris Chaput slid the puck between the legs of Holt at 16:28 and the period would end with the Stingrays leading, 4-3.

Despite great chances during the final stanza, the Checkers couldn't muster the tying goal and the Stingrays skated away with a 4-3 victory.
