April 4, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release
TRENTON, NJ - In their final regular season road game of the year, the Elmira Jackals came up short in dropping a 3-1decision to the Trenton Devils in front of 3,784 fans at Sovereign Bank Arena.
The Devils opened the scoring with the only goal of a first period in which they outshot the Jackals 21-2. Ervins Mustukovs (34 saves) was strong in the opening twenty minutes in making 20 saves, but succumbed to the pressure of a late 5-on-3 power play with teammates Chaz Johnson and Trevor Hendrikx in the box.
Stephen Wood, who netted the game-winner in Wednesday's 3-2 win in Elmira Wednesday, cashed in from the left circle for his 17th of the year at 18:45 to give Trenton a 1-0 lead.
The home team bumped the advantage up to 2-0 at 6:34 when Jason Paige collected his own rebound and slipped it around Mustukovs from the deep slot on feeds from Wood and Matt Radoslovich.
With Elmira skating with their first power play of the game, the Devils collected just their third shorthanded goal of the year when Jim Henkel made the intercept at center and sprinted to the Jackals zone. As the defense closed, Henkel dropped a between the skates pass to a trailing Eric Castonguay who buried his 19th of the season at 13:34 between the pads of Mustukovs.
Elgin Reid notched his second of the season for Elmira to break Maxime Oullet's shutout bid with 10:01 left in the game. Oullet finished the night with 22 saves in picking up his third win of the year.
The Jackals conclude the 2007-08 regular season at First Arena Saturday night in a 7:35 p.m. face-off against the Wheeling Nailers. It's Fan Appreciation Night with prizes given out to fans all night long.
