Trenton Devils News Release

TRENTON, NJ (April 4, 2008) - The Trenton Devils outshot the visiting Elmira Jackals 21-2 in the first period and rode that momentum to a 3-1 victory. Trenton saw several outstanding performances, including a highlight-reel shorthanded goal by Eric Castonguay and Jim Henkel.

Henkel fed Castonguay for the final Devils goal 13:34 into the second. Racing into the attacking zone after picking up a turnover, the veteran leader slipped the puck between his legs and through a chasing defenders' right onto the rookie's stick.

Castonguay did not miss his chance, slamming the puck through Ervins Mustukovs' five-hole for the Devils' third shorthanded goal of the season.

Stephen Wood would find the back of the net first, scoring on a five-on-three power play with 1:15 to go in the opening frame, sniping a puck from the middle of slot past Mustukovs. The defenseman was assisted by Trevor Kell and Ryan Gunderson.

Mustukovs, who had given up several big rebounds in the course of the first period but had them swept away, would not be so lucky in the second. Jason Paige broke through two defenders and pounded a shot off of the netminders' pads, creating a second opportunity for the forward to wrist up and into the shelf.

Outstanding play between the pipes was provided by Devils goalie Maxime Ouellet, who made 23 saves on the night to earn his third victory in five games.

The Jackals' lone goal was provided by Elgin Reid, who punched a rebound over Ouellet halfway through the third period.

With the win Trenton finished its season set with Elmira at 5-5-2. Trenton reeled off five wins after going 0-3-2 in its first five bouts with the Jackals.

The Trenton Devils will finish off the season with a contest against the Cincinnati Cyclones tomorrow, April 5, at 7:00pm. Come on down for Fan Appreciation Night with the Devils, who will be giving away dozens of prizes to lucky fans in attendance.
