Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that forward Ash Goldie has been named to the All-ECHL Second Team.

Goldie currently sits third in the ECHL in scoring with 82 points (40g-42a) in 68 games. The 27-year-old is tied for the league lead in goals with 40 and also has an ECHL high 20 power play goals. He has also notched six game winning goals.

"It is a tremendous honour to be recognized as a member of an All-ECHL team," Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Dan Belisle said. "Ash is a deserving recipient of this distinction, and on behalf of the entire Salmon Kings organization we would like to congratulate him."

The 5-9, 170lbs Goldie was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2008 Chase Chevrolet ECHL All-Star Game after setting a new ECHL All-Star Game record by accruing six points. He scored three goals and counted three assists in the National Conference's 10-7 victory. The three goals were scored on four shots, and Goldie ended the game with a ranking of +5. He was also the front half of the record for two fastest goals by one team in All-Star history. Goldie scored at the 16:55 mark of the second period and that was followed up a mere 16 seconds later when Peter Ferraro of the Las Vegas Wranglers put home the record setting goal.

Goldie's All-Star Game record breaking exploits began the night before at the Skills Competition. He established a new record in the MeiGray Group Accuracy Shooting Competition by hitting all four of the targets on four shots, becoming the first player to do so in the competition's 11 years.

The London, ON native was also named the ECHL player of the week twice this season. He was honoured with the award the weeks ending November 4th and January 27th.

The Salmon Kings have had one former player named to an All-ECHL team when in 2005-06 defenseman Steve Lingren was named to the All-ECHL Second Team.

Victoria and Alaska meet for the second game of a three-game set tonight. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The series and regular season concludes on Saturday for the third and final game puck drop is also at 7:05 p.m. Please call 220-7889 for ticket information.
