Fresno Falcons News Release
Boise, Idaho - The Fresno Falcons had their three-game winning streak come to an on Friday as they fell to the Idaho Steelheads 5-1 in front of 4,868 fans at Qwest Arena.
Idaho got off to a sizzling start, scoring four first-period goals, including three in a 3:47 span late in the period.
Andrew Martin scored an unassisted power-play goal 3:14 into the period to open the scoring, picking up a loose puck on the near post and stuffing a shot past goaltender Jake Moreland.
Taggart Desmet doubled the lead to 2-0 at the 13-minute mark, putting home a Aaron Gagnon shot. Lance Galbraith scored Idaho's second power-play goal of the period, beating Moreland with a slap shot from the right-wing circle at 15:22 to make it 3-0, and John Snowden finished the first-period scoring at 16:47, picking up a loose puck in front and beating Moreland for his eighth goal of the year.
The Steelheads out-shot the Falcons 20-0 in the first period, marking the first time in team history that the Falcons failed to get a shot on goal in a period.
Idaho stretched the lead to 5-0 just 46 seconds into the second period. Moreland came out of his crease to cut off the angle on a Desmet offering, but the puck slid free to Mark Bomersback at the hash marks, and he put the puck into the empty net for his 19th goal of the season.
The Falcons got on the board at the 14:07 mark of the second. Joe Van Culin gathered in a pass at the blue line and ripped a shot past Idaho goaltender Steve Silverthorn for his fourth goal of the year.
Idaho ended the night with a 43-22 edge in shots, while going 2-for-4 on the power play. The Falcons went scoreless on five chances with the man advantage.
