Rush Gets by Thunder in Shootout

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder lost 4-3 in a shootout to the Rapid City Rush at the INTRUST Bank Arena on Tuesday night.

Rush goaltender Tim Boron made a kick save on Lance Galbraith's attempt to extend the shootout and preserve the win for Rapid City. Aaron Davis scored in round four to keep Wichita alive, who had fallen behind 3-1 in the shootout after Rapid City's first four attempts.

Steven Kaunisto helped Wichita reach overtime, slamming home a one-timer from the slot that was setup by Brent Cullaton at the 7:48 mark in the third period. Kaunisto's goal came 1:22 after Jamie Carroll gave Rapid City a 3-2 lead, winning a scrum in front of the net.

Matt Robinson scored the first goal of the game at 14:36 in the opening period. During a Thunder two-man advantage, Kory Scoran ripped a shot from the point that went off Boron's blocker. Robinson grabbed the rebound near the left side of the crease and shot past Boron's left for the goal.

Ryan Menei tied the game 72 seconds into the second frame, beating Marc-Antoine Gelinas with a high shot from underneath the hashmarks. Konrad Reeder gave Rapid City a 2-1 lead at 6:31, but Robinson struck again just 27 seconds after Reeder's goal to tie the game. Robinson connected on a snapshot at the top of the right circle that beat Boron over his right shoulder.

Gelinas saved 36 of 39 in regulation and overtime in the loss. Boron earned the win, stopping 28 of 31. Each team was 1 for 6 on the power play.

The Thunder plays at Dayton on Friday at 6:30 p.m., opening a two-game series against the Gems as well as a five-game road trip.
