Rush Mourn Loss of Patricia Farrell
January 25, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - It is a sad day in the Rapid City Rush organization, as the team announced the loss of a family member. Patricia Farrell, the mother of Rush defenseman Grant Farrell, passed away early Tuesday after a battle with lung cancer. Grant is currently back home in Calgary, Alberta with family and friends.
"At this time, our thoughts and prayers go out to Grant and his family," said Rush Head Coach Joe Ferras. "We've been on the phone daily with Grant since he flew home on the 16th of January. The only blessing out of a very tragic situation is that Grant and his brother were able to get home and spend the last few days with their mother. The coaching staff and players are saddened by the loss of Grant's mother, but will continue to support Grant in any way possible during this difficult time."
While on the road following the All-Star Game, Grant was notified by his father that Patricia had become ill. Grant was then granted leave by the Central Hockey League to fly home to be with his family. After numerous tests, Patricia was diagnosed with lung cancer and subsequently passed away three days later.
The Rush will host 'Pink at the Rink' night at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center on Friday, February 11th against the Arizona Sundogs. The annual event raises money and awareness for breast cancer.
