
Bloomington Rallies for Daytime Win in Mississippi

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Bloomington PrairieThunder rallied from a 3-1 first period deficit and defeated the Mississippi RiverKings 5-4 in Central Hockey League action Tuesday morning, January 25th at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven. The game was played before a full house of youngsters on the RiverKings' eighth annual Face Off Field Trip in the 8,400 seat arena.
Mississippi took a 3-1 lead in the first period on a pair of goals from Chris Auger and a goal from Chris Richards. Auger scored the first one shorthanded at 3:00 of the period, but Bloomington answered with a goal from Alan Mazur at 3:28 to tie the contest at 1-1.
The RiverKings scored the next two goals in the first period, with Richards giving Mississippi a 2-1 lead at 10:34 and Auger scored his second goal of the game on a power play at 17:09 for the first intermission lead.
However, Bloomington took control of the game early in the second period, scoring three unanswered goal to claim a 4-3 lead going into the final period and defend a 12-0-0 mark in games when they lead after forty minutes. The PrairieThunder opened the second period scoring with a goal from Chris Cloud at 39 seconds, followed by a marker from Brodie Sheahan at 11:00 to tie the game at 3-3. Bloomington took a 4-3 into the second intermission locker room on a red-lighter from John Snowden at 13:02.
Mississippi fought back in the third period and finally produced a tying goal from Richards at 6:14, his second of the game and 13th of the season.
However, the game-winner came from Ryan McLeod, who unassisted effort at 9:25 provided the difference in the contest.
Bloomington outshot the RiverKings 31-23 for the contest. Marco Emond (18-9-10 was the winning goaltender for Bloomington, stopping 19 of 23 shots on goal. Larry Sterling (9-8-1) suffered the loss in the crease for the RiverKings despite a 26-save performance.
Mississippi scored once on the power play in five chances, while the PrairieThunder were 0-for-4 on the power play.
With the loss, the RiverKings dropped to 20-20-1 for the season and are 14-10-0 against the Turner Conference. Bloomington improved their first place standing in the Turner Conference to 23-13-2 and have now won three in a row.
Next action for the RiverKings is Friday night when they host Bloomington in the second game of the three-game week-long series. Game time at the DeSoto Civic Center is 7:05 PM. Southern College of Optometry Lions Club is the featured non-profit MVP for the night.
