Bucks Comeback Falls Short

HIDALGO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 4-3 Tuesday night at State Farm Arena. The Bucks finish their four-game road trip 1-3 as they fall to 14-19-6 (34 points).

The Bucks trailed 4-0 after one period and scored three straight goals to pull to within one at 4-3 late in the third, but the Bees held on for the win to improve to 16-22-3 (35 points).

The Killer Bees came out on fire in the first period as they took a 4-0 lead after 20 minutes of play, including scoring three goals in the first 4:33 of the game.

Brett Wilson put the Bees up 1-0 just 1:53 into the game when he picked up a loose puck in the Bucks end and scored from the bottom of the right circle to net his 10th of the season.

Rio would increase their lead to 2-0 at the 3:16 mark of the first when Aaron Lewicki scored from the left circle to pick up his 14th of the campaign.

The Bees would score their third goal in the first 4:33 of the game when Aaron Lee scored on a rebound with Rio on the power-play. The goal was Lee's 10th of the year.

With just 1:13 left in the first Nick Sucharski scored on a wraparound goal to make it 4-0 Bees.

The Bees outshot the Bucks 18-5 in the first period.

The Bucks would cut the Bees lead to 4-1 10:08 into the second period when Jeff Hazelwood scored from the left side of the crease to score his eighth of the season.

The Bees outshot the Bucks 15-4 in the second period.

Reid Edmondson pulled the Bucks to within 4-2 when he scored on the power-play 6:52 into the third period. The goal was Edmondson's fifth of the season.

The Bucks would cut the Bees lead to 4-3 with just 2:26 left when Adam Rivet scored his first goal of the season as he sent in a shot from the top of the left circle.

Laredo pulled goaltender Torrie Jung for the final 1:15 of the game to try and tie it with an extra attacker but Rio held on for the win.

Jung stopped 40 of 44 shots in the loss while Bees goaltender Juliano Paglieo stopped 15 of 18.

The Bucks were outshot 44-18 in the game.

The Bucks played their fifth straight game shorthanded and had just 13 skaters with Neil Trimm, Darryl Smith, Justin Styffe and Brian Matte all sitting out with injuries.
