
Ratchuk Assigned to Komets

Fort Wayne Komets News Release
Fort Wayne, IN -- The Columbus Blue Jackets of the NHL have assigned defenseman Mike Ratchuk to Fort Wayne. Ratchuk, 22, appeared in 15 games with Columbus' AHL affiliate Springfield scoring a goal an accumulating six penalty minutes. Ratchuk is skating his third pro year since being selected by Philadelphia in round two of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Ratchuk was traded by Philadelphia to Columbus in October, 2009.
The South Buffalo native was a member of the Michigan State Spartans of the CCHL for two years from 2006-2008 and played alongside Komet defenseman and Fort Wayne native Brandon Warner during the 2006-07 season winning the team's Outstanding Rookie Award before helping the Spartans take their third NCAA Championship title.
Following his college stint at Michigan State Ratchuk began his pro career in the AHL appearing in stints with the AHL's Philadephia Phantoms, Adirondack Phantoms, Syracuse Crunch and most recently the Springfield Falcons. In 135 AHL games Ratchuk has registered 10 goals, 32 points and 64 penalty minutes.
The defenseman is in Fort Wayne and is expected to be in the lineup when the Komets skate at Bossier-Shreveport this Friday night.
On the IR -- Continuing on the injured reserve list this week are Brandon Warner (30-day), Leo Thomas (30-day), Neil Musselwhite (10-day) and added to the IR is Danko Mironovic (10-day).
Komets goin' down south -- The Komets will skate two games at the CenturyTel Center in Bossier City, Louisiana against the Mudbugs Friday and Saturday. Each game starts at 8:05pm ET. Sunday the Komets will travel to Texas and face the Brahmas at 5pm ET at the NYTEX Sports Centre in Richland Hills, Texas for the only meeting of the season.
The Komets will return to home ice when the Wichita Thunder come to town for two games Friday, Feb. 4 at 8pm and Saturday, Feb. 5 at 7:30pm.
