Mallards Acquire Blaznek from Bossier-Shreveport

MOLINE, Ill. (January 25, 2011) - The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced they have acquired left wing Joe Blaznek from the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in exchange for future considerations.

Blaznek, 35, scored ten goals and totaled 22 points in 39 games with Bossier-Shreveport this season. The Detroit native spent two and a half seasons with the Mudbugs, for whom he scored 23 goals and totaled 50 points last year. He led Bossier-Shreveport in goal scoring each of the last two seasons and led the club in goals (24), assists (39), points (63) and plus/minus rating (+20) in 2008-09.

Now in his thirteenth season, the 6' 1", 205-pound Blaznek has scored 321 goals and picked up 367 assists for 688 points in 757 career games. In 2005-06, as member of the Wichita Thunder, Blaznek enjoyed his most productive season, scoring 44 goals and totaling 100 points. Blaznek has topped 20 goals in a season nine times and scored 30 or more goals on four occasions. He has played in a total of five All-Star Games in the CHL and ECHL. In all, Blaznek has played for nine teams in four leagues- CHL, ECHL, American Hockey League and International Hockey League- over the course of his career.

Before turning pro, Blaznek scored 57 goals and recorded 111 points in 139 games over four seasons at Lake Superior State. He helped to the Lakers to both a Central Collegiate Hockey Association regular season title and a CCHA playoff title as well as a pair of NCAA tournament bids during his time at LSSU. Blaznek both followed and preceded Mallards coach Frank Anzalone at Lake Superior State. Blaznek skated for the Lakers from 1994 to 1998; Anzalone coached LSSU from 1982 to 1990 and again from 2001 to 2005.

The Mallards return to action at home Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Rapid City Rush. Tickets for Wednesday evening's game- and all Mallards regular season home games- are available in person at the i wireless Center box office, at Ticketmaster outlets, through www.ticketmaster.com or through Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free at 1-800-745-3000. The ticket office is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and on game days other than Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the end of the first period. On Sundays on which the Mallards play at home, the ticket office is open from 1:00 p.m. until the end of the first period.
