Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release

HIDALGO, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (16-22-3) scored the first four goals of the game and would hold on to defeat the Laredo Bucks (14-19-6) by a 4-3 score Tuesday night at the State Farm Arena. The Bees scored three goals in the first five minutes and Nick Sucharski scored the game winner at 18:47 of the first. The Bees now take a 15-13 lead in the Cricket Mayor's Cup with three games remaining against their South Texas rivals.

The Killer Bees exploded in the first period scoring three goals in the first five minutes. Brett Wilson started the parade at 1:53 with a puck that trickled to the back of the net after Bucks netminder Torrie Jung got a piece of it. Brett Clouthier and Nick Sucharski applied excellent forechecking and puck movement to pick up the assists.

Aaron Lewicki continued the onslaught less than two minutes later at 3:16 with a backhanded goal making it a 2-0 game. Tomas Klempa took the first shot on net that was turned away by Jung but the rebound went right to Lewicki who backhanded it into the net.

The Bees made it a three goal game at 4:33 of the third with an Aaron Lee power-play strike. Lee took a feed from Darcy Campbell and ripped a shot high glove side beating Jung. For Lee it is his 10th goal of the season.

Nick Sucharski scored the final goal of the period at 18:47. Sucharski's first opportunity was turned away by Jung but Sucharski picked up the loose puck and wrapped around the far side of the net sliding it home to give the Bees the 4-0 lead.

After one period of play the Bees were outshooting the Bucks 18-5.

Laredo would get one back in the second period as Jeff Hazelwood potted his eighth of the season. At the end of two periods the Bees were outshooting the Bucks 32-9.

Laredo would add a third tally in the third period but it would prove to not be enough as the Bees held on for the 4-3 victory in front of the home crowd. Juliano Pagliero made 15 saves as the Bees held the Laredo Bucks to a season low 18 shots on net. 18 is the lowest total for an opponent shots on net since November 12th when the Bees held Bossier-Shreveport to 22 shots on net.

The Bees are now set to host the Texas Brahmas for a pair of games this weekend. The Bees will be wearing special Air Force jerseys on Friday night and 1,000 Thundersticks will be given away on Saturday night. Tickets are available by calling 956-843-PUCK (7825) or visiting killerbeehockey.com.
