
Bugs Hand Brahmas Second Consecutive Loss

BOSSIER-SHREVEPORT, Louisiana (January 25)- The I-20 rivalry between the Texas Brahmas and the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs saw the blood boiling and the Mudbugs snap their seven game losing streak in a 6-2 win over the Brahmas.
In a very physical first period, David Rutherford of the Mudbugs got the best of Brahmas netminder Wayne Savage when he scored with 13:48 left in the period. The Bugs ¬â¢ continued the pressure on the Brahmas defense when James DeLory shot one past Savage to give them the 2-0 lead after one.
The second period saw more goals by the Mudbugs as Shawn Limpright scored on a power play only 38 seconds into the period. The Brahmas finally found the goal when Jason Deitsch scored on a rebound one in the Mudbug net and cut the Mudbug lead to two goals. The Mudbugs, answered back as Rutherford scored another for the Mudbugs. Both Limpright and Rutherford (completing a hat trick) scored again in the period giving Bossier a five goal cushion after forty minutes of play.
The third period of play for both teams saw more physical play with multiple players injured and tossed from the action. The Brahmas closed out the scoring with Deitsch scoring his second of the game in the 6-2 setback. The Brahmas still lead the lead the season series 4-3.
The loss was the Brahmas first in regulation since a January 7th defeat to Odessa going 4-1-1 during that stretch. Both goaltenders Savage and Kevin Beech gave up three goals in the loss.
The Brahmas head to Rio Grande Valley for a two game series versus the Killer Bees and will head home for a Sunday, 4:00 PM game on January 30 against the Fort Wayne Komets at the NYTEX Sports Centre. The game will be Faith and Family Day featuring MLB All Star Vernon Wells as the postgame speaker.
