Rush Fall 6-0 to Tulsa
January 6, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Rapid City Rush News Release
(RAPID CITY, SD) - For the third time in a row, both the Tulsa Oilers and Rapid City Rush squared off on the ice, with this five-game series shifting to Rapid City. Both teams had a victory under their belt, and the Rush earned the momentum after their 6-3 win on Sunday, but the Oilers responded in an intense fashion on Tuesday night. Behind a four-point night from Adam Pleskach and a 21-save shutout from Kevin Carr, the Oilers cruised to a 6-0 win, just the fourth time the Rush have been shutout this season.
The Oilers and their high-flying offense set a tone early, and jumped out to a sizeable lead, scoring within 6:47 of the latter half of the opening frame. The first strike came at 10:07 of the period, as Scott Macaulay got his team on the board by ripping a shot from the slot to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead. 3:40 later, Jon Booras sent the puck past Danny Battochio on a wrap around to double the lead to 2-0. After Battochio was substituted for Raphael Girard, the Oilers kept the pressure coming, and doubled their two goal advantage. On a rush through the neutral zone, Drew Fisher was available with a wide open net and sent the puck home, establishing a 3-0 lead for the Oilers with 4:27 left in the period. Closing off the scoring rally was CHL Rookie of the Year finalist Adam Pleskach, netting his 20th of the season to extend the score to 4-0 heading into the period break.
Adam Pleskach added his second goal of the evening just 59 seconds into the second period. Pleskach took the puck from Drew Fisher and wrapped around the net, tucking the puck between Battochio's legs to exacerbate the Rush's scoreboard woes at a 5-0 count. The Rush couldn't seem to find offensive momentum, and ultimately took their 5-0 deficit into the final frame. Within the last minute of regulation, Macaulay scored a power play goal to bookend the scoring rally, making the final score 6-0, and ensuring the 21-save shutout the Kevin Carr had earned.
Danny Battochio receives his fourteenth loss of the season in his 28th appearance (10-14-2). For only the fourth time this season, the Rush have been held to a 0 on the scoreboard. After holding the Oilers to 14 shots on Sunday, a Rush franchise record, the Oilers ultimately scored 6 goals on 24 shots. The Oilers had five multi-point scorers: Adam Pleskach (2 G, 2 Ast), Drew Fisher (G, 2 Ast), Jeff Jubinville (3 Ast), Scott Macaulay (2 G), and Dave Pszenyczny (2 Ast). Both teams square off for a rematch on Friday night at Premier Home Mortgage Ice in Rushmore Plaza Civic Center at 7:05 p.m. MST.
