Mavericks Fall Short to Americans
January 6, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kansas City Mavericks News Release
Independence, MO (January 6, 2014)- The Missouri Mavericks (14-15-1-2, 31 points) dropped their fifth straight home game on Tuesday night falling to the Central Division leading Allen Americans (23-5-1-2, 49 points) by a 2-1 score. The Americans lead the division by 12 points and have now won four straight games. The Mavs have one game left on their three-game home stand (Friday versus Evansville).
Missouri jumped out to the lead in the game with Chris Crane scoring the first goal of the contest at the 8:53 mark. For Crane, it was his 11th goal of the season and the assists were given to Josh Brittain and Jack Downing.
The Americans would trail for just 1:05 as Tyler Ludwig's seventh goal of the season tied the game at the 9:58 mark of the first period.
Allen has the ECHL's fifth best power play (20.3%) and they used it to secure the eventual game winning goal. The strike came in the second period off the stick of Gary Steffes, his 20th goal of the season.
The Mavericks had their chances outshooting the Americans 28-20 in the game and 10-3 in the third period but they could not find a way through Riley Gill who was perfect on all 16 shots he faced after replacing Aaron Dell (injured) late in the first period. Gill improves to 17-4-0-1 on the season with the win.
Mike Clemente made 18 saves but takes the loss despite the strong performance (only one even strength goal allowed). Clemente's record dips to 6-8-0-1 on the season.
Allen finished the game 1 for 6 on the power play and Missouri went 0 for 4 which included a late chance with a man advantage and an extra attacker in the game's final three minutes.
The Mavericks close out their home stand on Friday night when they host the Evansville IceMen at Independence Events Center. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 PM (CST). Tickets are available for purchase at TicketMaster.com and in-person at the Silverstein Eye Centers Box Office at Independence Events Center.
Friday is Mac's birthday! Celebrate your favorite mascot's birthday with your very own Mac bobble head! The Mavs are giving away bobble heads to the first 1,500 fans at the game, presented by our partners at Price Chopper.
