Rapid City Rush News Release
(RAPID CITY, SD) - The Rapid City Rush, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Arizona Coyotes, announced today that Head Coach Mark DeSantis has added amateur defensemen Barrett Kaib and Anthony Mastrodicasa to the roster ahead of tonight's first of two weekend games against the Idaho Steelheads.
Kaib, a 23 year-old native of Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania, comes to the Rush after concluding his college career of 108 games between Providence College, and most recently Northern Michigan University. The 5'10", 183-pound blue liner registered 9 goals and 16 assists for 25 points in 77 games with Northern Michigan, and totaled 31 points (10 G, 21 Ast) in his entire college career. Prior to the start of his NCAA tenure, Kaib played as a member of the United States National Team Development Program in the USHL, and skated with Team USA in international competition, winning the 2010 WHC Gold Medal with the U-17 squad and the 2011 WJC Gold Medal with the U-18 squad.
Mastrodicasa is a 24 year-old native of Woodbridge, Ontario, and comes to the Rush following the conclusion of his NCAA career, which was played at Mercyhurst University. While skating alongside current Rush forward, Ryan Misiak, the 6'1", 201-pound skater manned the Mercyhurst blue-line for 132 games over the course of four seasons, totaling 56 points (12 G, 44 Ast) in his college career, while also helping his alma mater to an AHA Regular Season Championship as a junior in the 2013-14 season. Before joining the NCAA ranks, Mastrodicasa played the vast majority of his tenure in the OJHL with the Vaughan Vipers, where he was the leading point-getter and goal scorer amongst defensemen in the 2010-11 season, and was named as a Second Team All-Star in the following campaign in 2011-12.
