Manchester Monarchs News Release

ELMIRA, N.Y. - The Manchester Monarchs couldn't overcome three first period goals in a 1:32 span, and fell to the Elmira Jackals, 4-2, Friday night at First Arena.

The Monarchs (37-19-3-5) are now 6-3-0-1 against the Jackals (33-27-3-1) in the season series, and will play their East Division rivals for the final time in the regular season tomorrow night.

Elmira opened the scoring when Matt Garbowsky netted his 6th goal of the season at 11:07 of the first period. After a wild sequence in front of the Monarchs net, Garbowsky took advantage of stick-less Monarchs goaltender, Doug Carr, sending a snap shot through Carr's legs for the 1-0 Elmira lead.

Cason Hohmann added to the Jackals lead just :14 seconds later, scoring his 18th goal of the season. Hohmann drove the net on a 2-on-1 and flipped the puck up-and-over Carr on a dish from Allan McPherson, making the game, 2-0, Elmira.

The Jackals extended their lead when Kyle Bushee scored his 6th goal of the season at12:39 of the first period. On another 2-on-1 rush, Bushee took a late, cross-ice pass from Justin Bernhardt and tapped the puck into a wide-open net, giving the Jackals a 3-0 lead.

The Monarchs cut into the Jackals lead when Zac Larraza scored his 16th goal of the season :37 seconds into the second period. While on the power play, Larraza found the loose puck in the slot after a Michael Boivin shot was blocked into the air and slid the puck on the ice through the five-hole of Jackals goaltender, Shane Owen, making the score, 3-1, Elmira.

Tyler Currier gave the Jackals their three-goal lead back when he scored his 20th goal of the season at 3:31 of the middle period. Currier carried the puck into the Monarchs zone on a 2-on-1 with Zach Cohen and ripped a wrister past Carr's blocker from just inside the right face-off circle, making the game, 4-1, Elmira.

Manchester fought back at 4:19 in the third period when Nicholas Kuqali scored his first goal of the season. Kuqali sent a one-timed slap shot from the center of the blue line that beat Owen low blocker, bringing the Monarchs to within striking distance, 4-2. Harry Quast grabbed his second career assist on the play.

The Monarchs would pull Carr with 2:01 minutes on the clock for the extra attacker, but couldn't beat Owen to get any closer.

The Monarchs are back in action tomorrow night (7:05 p.m.), when face the Jackals in the final game of their two-game series with Elmira from First Arena.
