Americans Earn a Point, in 2-1 Shootout Loss

March 18, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Allen Americans News Release

Allen, Americans - In the final game of the five game home stretch, the Allen Americans hosted the Alaska Aces for the first time ever at the Allen Event Center. The Aces made their first trip to Texas an entertaining one, as Alaska bested the Americans in shootout, 2-1 in front of 5, 304 at Allen Event Center.

Alaska and Allen don't see too much of each other during the regular season, but no one would have guessed that with all the animosity in the air. The first period saw two separate fights, first from Reid Halabi and Patrick Wellar, followed by a bout between Jacob Poe and Ryan Tesink. More than half of the first period was played with at least one player in a penalty box. Allen got on the board first when Vincent Arseneau scored his 10th of the season. Allen started the impressive James Murray in net once again. He was beaten once as well in the period by Tomasso Traversa, his 15 th of the season.

With no other scoring to speak of in the second, third, or overtime periods, the two teams put their best foot forward in the shootout. Both goalies stood tall against four rounds of shooters until Ben Lake finally beat Murray, ending the game.

The Americans are right back at it tomorrow, the 18th, when they visit the Tulsa Oilers at the BOK Center with puck-drop at 7:05 pm.
