HEAD-TO-HEAD - The Monarchs and Jackals square off for the tenth time this season, with the Monarchs holding a 6-2-0-1 record against their East Division rival. The Monarchs have won five of the last six games against Elmira, beating the Jackals, 3-1, in the last game between the two clubs on Mar. 13 in Manchester. Maxim Kitsyn has played the Jackals well so far this season, scoring eight points on six goals and two assists in nine contests, and Derek Arnold has put up more than a point a game against the Jackals, scoring seven points (2g, 5a) in six games.
WHERE WE STAND - The Monarchs (82 points) enter tonight's contest six points clear of the Adirondack Thunder for tops in the East Division, and 14 points ahead of the Jackals who are fighting for a playoff spot. Manchester heads into the weekend in second place in the Eastern Conference, trailing the Toledo Walleye by three points, and hold the third-most points in the entire ECHL, chasing the Missouri Mavericks (99 points) for best in the league.
HOME COOKING? - The Monarchs come into tonight's game with the second-most road victories in the entire ECHL (19), and second-fewest overall road losses (10) in the league. Elmira on the other had has struggled at home this season, boasting the fourth-fewest home victories (13) in the 28-team league, and have earned the third-fewest amount of home points (27).
WHO'S HOT - Maxim Kitsyn enters tonight's game looking to push his point streak 16 games, which would be the longest in the ECHL this season. Kitsyn's streak began Jan. 24, and in that time, he has posted 18 points on eight goals and 10 assists. Kitsyn has also scored in 22-of-23 games, totaling 26 points on 13 goals and 13 assists. Joey Diamond has been equally effective for the Monarchs for some time now, scoring 30 points in his last 26 games (13g 17 a), and has notched eight goals in his last eight games.
SHORTY'S - Elmira's rookie forward, Jacob MacDonald, leads all ECHL skaters with four shorthanded goals this season, but the Monarchs have allowed only two shorthanded goals this season, the fewest in the league.
SCORING AWAY - The Monarchs have been producing on the road as their 19-9-0-1 record indicates, but their scoring differential away from the Jungle has stood out. The Monarchs have scored 101 goals (3.48 goals/game) in 29 road games this season, compared to 95 goals in 34 games (2.79 goals/game) at home. Elmira enters tonight giving up and average of 3.23 goals/game at home, as opposed to 2.72 goals/game on the road.
SPECIAL TEAMS - Manchester brings the fifth-rated overall power play unit into Elmira this weekend, converting on 18.6% of their man-advantages this season. The Monarchs have been even better on the road with the extra attacker, converting on 20.8% of their chances in opposing barns. Elmira should be concerned as they have only killed 78.1% of home shorthanded opportunities, second from the bottom in the ECHL.
YOUNG C(L)UB - The Monarchs have paced the East Division for a large portion of the season, and have done it with a significant youth movement. On the current roster, the Monarchs boast 11 first-year players, and on the season, 21 rookies have called Manchester home.
