May 28, 2021 - Eastern League (EL)
Akron RubberDucks News Release
Binghamton right fielder Wagner Lagrange hit a walk-off eighth-inning single for a 3-2 victory in Game 1 to give his team its first win in eight games with Akron, and the Rumble Ponies overcame a 7-1 deficit in Game 2, with third baseman Mark Vientos hitting a seventh-inning walk-off RBI single for a Thursday night doubleheader sweep at Rumbletown Stadium.
Turning Point
In Game 1, with a 2-2 tie and a runner at second base beginning the bottom of the eighth inning, Akron right-hander Nick Mikolajchak allowed a leadoff single to Vientos, and with one out, Lagrange lined a 3-2 pitch barely fair down the left-field line to score the winning run. In Game 2, the Rumble Ponies scored three runs each in the fifth and sixth innings to pull even at 7-7. In the seventh inning against Akron right-hander Alec Wisely, shortstop Manny Rodriguez, center fielder Jake Mangum and Vientos hit consecutive one-out singles to complete the home team's comeback win.
Mound Presence
In Game 1, right-hander Shane McCarthy allowing a run in each of the first two innings before shutting out Binghamton for the rest of his 4 2/3 innings with six strikeouts. Right-hander Dakody Clemmer pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings, before Mikolajchak allowed the first run (unearned) against him this season. In Game 2, right-hander Eric Mock tied his career high with seven strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings in his first professional start and Double-A debut. Left-hander Andrew Misiaszek, also making his Double-A debut, yielded four runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings, and left-hander Skylar Árias allowed two runs on three hits in the sixth. Wisely stranded the bases loaded in the sixth before the decisive seventh.
Duck Tales
Tyler Freeman led off both games with a single and later scored. In Game 1, Call hit a sixth-inning, game-tying home run - his first of the season - off Binghamton left-hander Josh Walker. In Game 2, Akron scored seven runs across the first three innings, including Call's RBI single and two-run doubles by Andruw Monasterio and José Fermín.
