
Ponies Sweep Doubleheader over Ducks with Pair of Walk-Off Wins

Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (4-17) swept a doubleheader against the Akron RubberDucks (14-7) Thursday night, winning both games in walk-off fashion. They won Game One 3-2 in 8 innings and Game Two 8-7 in seven innings.
Game 2: Rumble Ponies 8, RubberDucks 7
The Ponies were down 7-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth when they began their comeback. Jeremy Vasquez started the rally with an RBI double, Wagner LaGrange hit a sacrifice fly, and Yoel Romero hit an RBI single to cut the deficit to 7-4. In the sixth, Jake Mangum made it 7-5 with an RBI single, Mark Vientos hit an RBI single to pull the Ponies to within one, and Romero came through again with an RBI single to tie the game at 7.
Then in the eighth, Manny Rodriguez hit a one out single, Mangum moved him to second with a hit, and Vientos won it with a walk-off single off the shortstop Andruw Monasterio's glove and into left field, allowing Rodriguez to come around and score the winning run.
Mangum finished 3-5 with 2 runs scored and an RBI and Vientos was 2-4 with 2 RBI. Vasquez, Romero, and Matt Winaker all had multi-hit games as well.
Game 1: Rumble Ponies 3, RubberDucks 2
Wagner Lagrange hit the walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to give the Ponies their first win against Akron this year, while also snapping the Ducks 6-game winning streak. Vientos was 2-4 in this game as well with a solo homer in the first inning, his third of the year.
Ponies RHP Josh Walker, making his Double-A debut, allowed just 2 runs on 7 hits over 6 innings, with 0 walks and 6 strikeouts in the no-decision. Joseph Shaw and Thomas McIlraith (1-2) pitched two perfect innings in relief.
The Ponies continue their series with the RubberDucks on Friday night with first pitch at 7:05 PM with fireworks to follow the game.
POSTGAME NOTES: It's the first multi-game winning streak for the Rumble Ponies this year...Vientos in the two games combined went 4-8 with a HR, 3 RBI and 3 runs scored.
