Portland, Maine - The Portland Sea Dogs (16-10) fall 4-1 in the series opener to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (14-12) on Tuesday night.
Brayan Bello made a Major League Rehab start pitching 2.2 innings allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits while walking two and striking out five. Blaze Jordan extended his hit streak to 12 games while Eddinson Paulino extended his hit streak to nine games. Kyle Teel and Mickey Gasper each recorded multi-hit days going two-for-three at the plate.
Binghamton would take the early lead in the top of the first with a pair of hits. Matt Rudick doubled to leadoff before a double off the bat of JT Schwartz would drive him in to give Binghamton a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the second, Brandon McIlwain launched a solo shot over the Maine Monster to extend the lead before an RBI single from Rhylan Thomas scored the third run for the Rumble Ponies.
Roman Anthony hit his first triple of the season in the bottom of the fifth before a sacrifice fly to left field from Marcelo Mayer brought him home to score and put Portland on the board.
In the top of the sixth, a bases-loaded walk from Rudick would allow another run to score and cap off the scoring on either side as Binghamton took game one, 4-1.
RHP Tyler Stuart (1-1, 3.91 ERA) earned the win after pitching 5.2 innings allowing one run on four hits while walking three and striking out three. Wilkin Ramos (5) earned the save after pitching 1.0 scoreless inning allowing two hits while striking out two. He did not issue a walk. RHP Brayan Bello (0-1, 6.75 ERA) was issued the loss after pitching 2.2 innings allowing three runs (2 ER) on four hits while walking two and striking out five.
The Sea Dogs return to Hadlock Field on Wednesday, May 8th, 2024 for game two of a six-game series with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. The first pitch for game two is slated for 6:00 pm. RHP Hunter Dobbins (2-0, 2.14 ERA) will get the ball for Portland while Binghamton will give the ball to RHP Joander Suarez (1-1, 2.60 ERA).
