CURVE, Pa. - Sammy Siani knocked an RBI-triple for his first Double-A base hit, but it was the only run generated by the Curve on Tuesday afternoon in an 8-1 defeat against the Somerset Patriots at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
Somerset slugged seven extra-base hits in the contest, the most allowed by the Curve this season. The Patriots had 10 hits in the win, with five doubles and a pair of two-run home runs from Agustin Ramirez and J.C. Escarra, both hit off Altoona starter Sean Sullivan .
Sullivan allowed a lead-off double to Spencer Jones to open the game before Ramirez knocked a home run to propel Somerset ahead early in the first. Jordan Groshans smacked an RBI-double later in the first to make it a 3-0 game.
Escarra launched a two-run shot in the third off Sullivan, who allowed five runs on four hits with a season-high six strikeouts in 4.0 innings. Cameron Junker tossed two scoreless innings of relief before Justin Meis allowed three runs in relief. Grant Ford tossed a scoreless ninth inning for the Curve.
Siani, who went 1-for-4 in the loss, tripled in the seventh inning to score Seth Beer , who led off the inning in the walk. It was one of five hits for the Curve, as Bailey Dees tossed six scoreless innings to earn the win for Somerset before Yorlin Calderon, Josh Maciejewski, and Kevin Stevens ended the game.
Altoona continues its six-game series with the Somerset Patriots, Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. Altoona will send RHP Braxton Ashcraft to the mound to face RHP Trystan Vrieling for Somerset.
