Rudkowsky Thrives In Novemberâ¦Claims League Honor
November 16, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA â The Reading Royals, affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and AHL's Manchester Monarchs, have announced that goaltender Cody Rudkowsky has been named the Reebok Hockey ECHL Saver of the Week for November 8-14. Rudkowsky, 26, appeared in two games for Reading this week and didn't allow a goal. The Willingdon, Alberta native stopped a combined 50 shots in wins over Wheeling, Friday night (5-0) and Dayton, Saturday (3-0). The 6-foot-1, 215-pound netminder set a new Royals mark last year with 24 regular season wins and posted an 8-6 record in the Kelly Cup Playoffs. He recorded a 2.02 goals against average and .937 save percentage to lead the club to a Northern Division title and Eastern Conference Finals appearance. The five-year professional claimed the same league honor for the week of November 3-9 during the 2003-04 season.
Rudkowsky said his teammates did all the work, "Shutouts are a total team effort. Saturday, when the guys held Dayton to just 14 shots and zero in the third period, that speaks volumes of their efforts and how easy they made my job. That's the way our defense has been playing all season."
The Reading Royals are entering their fourth season in Reading, Pennsylvania after relocating from Columbus, Ohio. The Royals enjoyed their first Kelly Cup playoff appearance last season, claiming the Northern Division Title and were one win away from qualifying for the Kelly Cup Finals. The Royals and the City of Reading are proud to be hosting the 13th annual ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition presented by Coors Light on January 25 and 26.
The Royals host a pair of games this week. Reading battles Peoria tonight for the first time this season, a rematch of last season's Northern Division Finals series. It's Voices Hockey Night in Reading with students able to enter the game for just $5 with a valid student ID. Friday when Reading tangles with South Carolina, Captial Blue Cross is handing out Royals ice scrapers to the first 2,000 fans in attendance. Both games face off at 7:05 p.m.
