Gulls Agree To Terms With Blackhawks' Brown
November 16, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release
SAN DIEGO â The San Diego Gulls announced on Monday that they have agreed to terms with center Curtis Brown, who signed as a free agent in July with Chicago of the National Hockey League.
Brown practiced with the Gulls on Monday and will be in uniform on Wednesday when San Diego hosts Bakersfield.
"My decision to play here is really two-fold," Brown said. "I want to stay
in shape and be ready if the lockout ends. But I also want to help the
Gulls win and fit in with the team and community, which is the most
important thing."
Brown, whose wife is from Orange County, California said he received offers
to play in Europe, but decided that playing in San Diego would be the best
option.
"I'm very excited to be in San Diego and play for the Gulls," Brown said.
"I wanted to play somewhere and after looking at all my options, San Diego
was best for me and my family. And the ECHL is probably the most
competitive as it's ever been, so I can't think of a better place to play
right now, for me and my family."
In 2003-04, Brown scored 21 points (9g-12a) in 68 games with Buffalo and four points (2g-2a) in 12 regular season games and two points (0g-2a) in 17 playoff games with San Jose. Selected in the second round (43rd overall) by Buffalo in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, the 28-year-old Brown has scored 256 points (111g-145a) in 554 regular season NHL games and 27 points (14g-13a) in 69 NHL playoff games.
