Lynx Deal Greenough, Get Munn, Waive Leger
November 16, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
The Augusta Lynx were burning up the transaction wire on Monday, dealing forward Nick Greenough to the Reading Royals for cash considerations, waiving forward Jim Leger, and receiving defenseman Steve Munn from the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League.
With the arrival of Munn on the Lynx blue line, the team is immediately better defensively. After playing four years at R.P.I. in college, Munn spent eight games with the Elmira Jackals in the United Hockey League before landing with the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies for two seasons, where he won a Kelly Cup in 2002-03. Last year Munn also spent six games with the AHL's Bridgeport SoundTigers before signing on with Providence this season, where he has played in two games with no points and 5 PIMs. Acquired as the future considerations in a trade with Atlantic City for Marc St. Jean last season, the 6-2, 205 lb. blue liner is expected to report in time to make the team's upcoming road trip.
"He's a solid presence on our blue line," said Stan Drulia, Lynx Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations. "We like his size and his competence in his own zone. He's not afraid to make guys pay the price in front of the net, and he's a good leader in the locker room. Steve's a stay-at-home guy who obviously has the ability to play at the next level."
Greenough, 24, appeared in five games with the Lynx this season, recording no points and 24 PIMs along with a -2 rating. He played 45 games with the Lynx last season, scoring a goal and adding eight assists along with 201 minutes in penalties. The Halifax, Nova Scotia native had also spent time with six different AHL teams in the past three seasons as well as 42 games with the Mississippi Sea Wolves in 2001-02. Leger appeared in only two games for the Lynx, notching no points or PIMs and a -2 rating.
The Lynx are on the road this week as they battle Mississippi Friday and Sunday with a Saturday swing to Louisiana sandwiched in between. Tuesday the Lynx are in Charlotte before coming back home Wednesday against Pee Dee, Friday vs. Pensacola, and hosting Columbia on Saturday. Tickets are $10, $13, and $14, and are available through the Lynx office at 712 Telfair St. by calling (706) 724-4ICE, through all TicketMaster locations, and online at www.TicketMaster.com. Welcome to THE YEAR OF THE FAN.
