Peoria Rivermen News Release

Reading, Pa. (November 16, 2004) – The Peoria Rivermen dropped their fourth game in a row regulation to open its five-game road trip, falling to the Reading Royals 3-1 on Tuesday night before a crowd of 3,929 at the Sovereign Center.  The game was the first matchup between the clubs since the Rivermen fell in four games (3-1) to the Royals in the Northern Division Finals.

The losing streak equals Peoria's season-worst from the 2003-2004 season. The Royals took their second lead of the night on the power play with 5:15 left in regulation.  After a Rivermen clearing attempt hit a linesman just outside of the zone, David Masse chipped the puck by one Peoria player, broke in down the left side and rifled the puck through the legs of rookie goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu from the face-off dot.  It was Masse's second tally of the season.

Ryan Kinasewich completed the scoring with 42 seconds left in the game.  After a pass from Mike Souza, Kinasewich broke in down the left side of the Peoria zone all alone and whistled the puck through Beckford-Tseu's legs.  It was Kinasewich's third goal of the season.

Peoria (2-5-2, 6 points) is winless in its first five road games (0-4-1) of the season.  The Rivermen have yet to score the first goal in any of their games and have held just three leads all season.  Reading (5-5-0, 10 points) has won five in a row and improved to 3-1-0 at home with the victory.

Beckford-Tseu (1-2-1) turned away 25 of 28 shots in the loss, while fellow rookie Barry Brust (3-1-0) stopped 27 of 28 chances in the win.

Reading opened the scoring at 11:25 of the first period.  Craig Mischler, along the endboards near the right wing corner, fed a breaking Souza, who was darting into the slot.  Souza slipped a one-touch tap shot under the right pad of Beckford-Tseu and inside the left goal post.  It was Souza's second goal of the season.

The Rivermen knotted the score at 16:17 of the second period just 12 seconds into their sixth power play of the contest.  Randy Rowe and Tyler Rennette played catch from the right face-off circle to the point and then out to the high slot, where Rennette – just a foot inside the blue line – sent a one-time slap shot into the upper right corner that Brust never saw.  It was Rennette's second tally of the season and second point of the year.

On Friday, November 19, the Rivermen face off against the archrival Toledo Storm in the fifth and final game of a five-game, nine-day road trip and the front end of home-and-home set between the clubs.  Game time is 6:30 p.m. CT at the Toledo Sports Arena.
