RubberDucks Beaten by Bowie Rallies

The Bowie Baysox used two late inning rallies, including a game-tying two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning, to steal the victory from the Akron RubberDucks, 6-5, Friday night at Canal Park.

Turning Point

The Akron bullpen were almost flawless until the top of the ninth inning when Jesmuel Valentin tied the game with a line drive home run over the left field fence to tie the score at 5-5. The momentum would stay on the Baysox side as they scored the deciding run in the top of the ninth inning to ultimately win 6-5 in ten innings.

Mound Presence

Akron RubberDucks started Sam Hentges worked in and out of jams in his 3.1 innings, allowing all three of the Bowie Baysox runs, which were earned. Hentges threw 86 pitches in his outing and struck out six batters, but walked four Bowie Baysox hitters and allowed five base hits. The Akron bullpen combined for 6.2 innings of work allowing only two hits until the top of the ninth inning when Kyle Nelson surrendered a game-tying two-run home run in the ninth and an RBI game-winning single in the top of the tenth.

Duck Tales

Nearly all of the RubberDucks offense came in the first inning, with a parade of singles. Ernie Clement led off the Ducks half of the first inning with a single to left and was then pushed to second base on a sinking liner to right field from Nolan Jones for his first hit at the double-A level. Then, Connor Marabell, Alex Call, and Nellie Rodriguez brought pushed a run across the plate with RBI singles of their own to give the RubberDucks the early 3-1 advantage. Ernie Clement singled through the right side of the infield in the bottom of the ninth to score Tyler Krieger and tie the score 5-5.

Notebook

With two base hits Trenton Brooks has now extended his hitting streak to ten games, collecting four doubles and two home runs along the way ... Ernie Clement, having reached safely with a single, now has a 12-game hitting streak and has collected 65 hits in 52 games since returning from the injured list on May 9th, which ranks second in the Eastern League over that span ... Nolan Jones, who collected his first two hits at the double-A level, batted .286 with a .435 OBP at high-A Lynchburg before his promotion to Akron ... Time of Game: 3:18... Attendance: 6,042

On the Pond

The RubberDucks now continue their homestand Saturday night at 7:05 p.m as they again take on the Baysox. The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM, the WARF iHeart channel, and the TuneIn Radio App. LHP Adam Scott (3-0, 2.22) will start for the RubberDucks as they try to salvage a split in this four-game series with Bowie against RHP Dean Kremer (5-4, 3.71).
