READING, PA- The location might have changed, but for the second night in a row, the final score was the same, thanks to another strong second period by the Reading Royals. Reading lit the lamp three times in the middle frame, en route to a 6-3 victory over the Wheeling Nailers, in front of 4,327 fans at Sovereign Center.

The first period was loaded with excitement, as the two teams combined for four goals, 23 shots and 44 penalty minutes. The Royals scored first, as Dale Mitchell took a feed from Ray Macias, skated hard down the left side of the ice, and beat Patrick Killeen with a wrist shot high over the glove. A little more than five minutes later, the Nailers evened the score. Paul Crowder handed the puck to Paul Thompson, who ripped a wrist shot into the top right corner of the goal. 18 seconds after that, Wheeling took their first lead of the night on an odd man rush. Mickael Bedard dashed in on the left side of the offensive zone, and delivered a pass to Matt Lombardi, who beat Mark Owuya going against the grain. With 5:05 to go in the opening stanza, Reading tied the game, as Yannick Tifu batted in a loose puck off of a rebound, created by Denny Urban's initial shot from the point.

In the second period, the Royals jumped out to a significant advantage, as they picked up three straight goals. Todd Griffith put the home team on top at the 3:10 mark on a goal setup by Andrew Favot and Dale Mitchell. Mitchell added to the lead himself later on, as the Royals broke in on an odd man rush, with he and Yannick Riendeau exchanging passes before the goal. With 6:14 remaining, Reading connected again on an odd man rush, as Yannick Tifu finished off a 3-on-1 break with Yannick Riendeau and Olivier Labelle. The Nailers got within two in the final minute of the frame, as Paul Crowder flipped in the rebound of Denver Manderson's power play shot from the right point.

Andrew Favot's unassisted goal on a 2-on-1 rush at the 8:09 mark of the third period was the lone goal in the final frame, as the Royals picked up the 6-3 victory.

Mark Owuya secured the win for Reading, stopping 34 of the 37 shots he faced. Patrick Killeen took the loss for Wheeling, allowing six goals on 24 shots.

The Nailers return to WesBanco Arena on Sunday at 4:05, when they welcome the Chicago Express to WesBanco Arena. For ticket information call 304-234-GOAL (4625) or online at shop.wheelingnailers.com.
