December 17, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Chicago Express News Release
Hoffman Estates, IL- The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, were shutout 3-0 by the Cincinnati Cyclones at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati on Saturday night.
A cat-and-mouse style first period saw the Cyclones take the first advantage, scoring 8:53 into the first period. A slap shot from the point from D Jeremy Klaver was deflected right in front of the net by LW Garrett Wilson, boosting Cincinnati to a 1-0 lead. It would be the lone goal of the opening frame, and the Cyclones led 10-5 in shots on goal after the first period.
The Cyclones doubled their lead late in the second period, when F Chris Cahill finished off a 3-2 rush by wristing a shot just inside the left post and making the score 2-0. The Express struggled offensively during the second period, as they managed just two shots on goal in the frame and trailed Cincinnati 22-7 in shots on goal through two periods of play.
Chicago was able to generate more offense in the third period, as they fired 10 shots on goal, but were not able to beat Cincinnati goaltender Brian Foster. The Cyclones added a final goal when D David Leaderer scored an empty-netter from his own blue line to sink the Express 3-0.
